Remember, the Chilean Woodstar (Eulidia yarrellii) is the smallest bird in Chile and one of the smallest hummingbirds in the world.

Characteristics of females; They measure between 7-8 cms. Its weight varies between 2.3 - 2.5 grams. They are completely white from throat to abdomen,  not purple/red like in the males; with the entire lower part white, light brown, becoming more brown towards the flanks and subcaudal. Central rectrices green metallic with the sides light brown with a white tip.

The Chilean Woodstar (Eulidia yarrellii) is the smallest bird in Chile and one of the smallest hummingbirds in the world.

Characteristics of the males; they measure between 8-9 cms. Its weight varies between 2.3 - 2.5 grams. Metallic olive green head and tops. Iridescent throat, purple and red with blue tones seen from the side and black front view; rest of the lower parts white-brown and its pretty tail strongly bifurcated.

The IUCN categorizes species according to their vulnerability to threats in the world.

From the first population estimate made in 2003 that showed that there were at least 1500 individuals, to the last population estimate made in 2015 the number has fallen to 405 species.
